As a pet owner, it is important to ensure that your furry friend stays healthy and protected from various diseases. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is through vaccinations. In Switzerland, there are both mandatory and desirable cat vaccinations. In this article, we will discuss each of them, including their optimal timing and the number of revaccinations required.

Mandatory Vaccinations

There are three cat vaccinations against highly contagious respiratory infection that are mandatory in Switzerland.

Age and terms: the optimal time is at 9 weeks, with a second dose given at 12 weeks. A yearly revaccination is recommended.

Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR)

Feline Calicivirus (FCV)

Feline Panleukopenia (FPV)

Caused by the feline herpesvirus
Causes fever, ulcers, and respiratory symptoms
Often fatal disease that attacks the immune system and digestive tract

Desirable Vaccinations

There are also desirable cat vaccinations in Switzerland. They are highly recommended for pets that spend time outdoors or come into contact with other cats to protect the immune system from such viruses.

Age and terms: the same as previous mandatory options.

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV)

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)

Can lead to leukemia
Can lead to immunodeficiency in cats

Vaccinations Against Ticks and Worms

Ticks and worms can cause serious health problems in pets. To protect your cat from these parasites, there are vaccinations available in Switzerland.

Tick-borne Diseases

Protects against diseases transmitted by ticks, such as Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, and Babesiosis.

Age and terms: the optimal time is at 12 weeks of age, with a second dose given at 16 weeks. A yearly revaccination is recommended.

Worms

Protects against roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms.

Age and terms: the optimal time is at 8 weeks of age, with a second dose given at 12 weeks. A yearly revaccination is recommended.
