Are the vaccines different for indoor, outdoor, or cattery cats?

CHAT D'INTÉRIEUR
indoor cat
For these cats, we recommend a range of core vaccinations. It includes vaccines against: viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia. In everyday life, this combination of vaccines is usually sufficient. Indoor cats have a low risk of contracting infectious diseases that can be transmitted by contact with other animals
CHATS D'EXTÉRIEUR + CHATERRIE
outdoor cat + cattery cats
Outdoor and cattery cats have a higher risk of infection than indoor cats due to close contact with members of their own species. Therefore, in addition to the basic series of vaccines, we also recommend the vaccine against feline leukemia virus (FeLV), as this virus is extremely dangerous
The choice of vaccines for cats in Switzerland can vary depending on the animal's environment and the risk of contracting various infections in your particular case. Our veterinarian will recommend cat vaccine to administer to your animal. Below, you can read the key principles that come into play when choosing vaccine options

What are the polyvalent and monovalent vaccines available for cats in Switzerland?

Rabies vaccine for cats is mandatory in Switzerland and also for those who plan to travel with or transport a pet to another country. This will save you unnecessary hassle when crossing borders and obtaining a pet passport
Rabies
The vaccine protects against the feline leukemia virus. Infection occurs through the saliva, blood, and other body fluids of an infected cat. Therefore, most often we perform this vaccination for outdoor and cattery cats
FeLV
A 4-component extended vaccine that, in addition to the listed viral diseases (RCP), also protects the cat against the likelihood of contracting chlamydia. We recommend vaccination with RCPCh more often for outdoor cats and cats from a cattery where there is close contact with other animals.
RCPCh
Cat RCP vaccine is a complex that protects a pet from three diseases: rhinotracheitis (R), calicivirus (C), panleukopenia (P). Recommended for indoor and outdoor cats.
RCP
6-8 weeks
The kitten receives its first vaccines. These are usually the combined RCP or RCPCh vaccine
8-9 weeks
During the appointment with a veterinarian, a vaccine against leukemia is administered. The intervals can be extended if necessary up to 9-12 weeks. Vaccination against FeLV consists of two vaccinations spaced 2-4 weeks apart

First vaccines for kittens. Cat vaccination schedule and revaccination frequency

The vaccination schedule and revaccination frequency for cats may vary slightly depending on the veterinarian's recommendations and the type of vaccines used in Switzerland. However, generally, the cat vaccine schedule is the same. After the completion of the initial series , you should provide annual cat vaccinations to maintain the pet's immunity.

12 weeks

Is it mandatory to vaccinate cats against rabies?

In short, yes. The cat rabies vaccine is mandatory once in 3 year , both those residing regularly in the country and those imported into Switzerland.

In many EU countries, the USA, New Zealand, Japan, this vaccine is also mandatory. Therefore, before planning a trip, check the full list of vaccinations your cat should have and get them done in advance.
Attention

How much do cat vaccinations cost?

The prices of cat vaccines in Switzerland can vary depending on the package of services, the region, and the clinic where you undergo this procedure. In our MVET veterinary clinics, the price of cat vaccination also includes a consultation, which is conducted to assess the health of the animal and prescribe the necessary series of vaccines.
